A gray screen popped up with four languages telling me to restart my computer.

This error is known as a kernel panic error.

  1. Please hold down the Power button for several seconds until your computer shuts off
  2. After the computer shuts off, let go of the Power button.
  3. Wait a few seconds and restart the computer.

A "kernel panic" may occur when the core (kernel) of an operating system receives an instruction in an unexpected format, or that it does not handle properly. A kernel panic may also occur when the operating system is not able to recover from a different type of issue. A kernel panic can also be caused by damaged or incompatible software or hardware.

Most of the time a restart will fix this issue. If you experience the issue again, please call Technical Support at x6688.
