When I turn on my projector and look at my screen / activeboard it shows my desktop background only, but no icons.

You will need to change your display settings to Turn On Mirroring.

  1. In the Menu Bar, click on the Display's icon (upper right corner of your screen) and select Turn On Mirroring.

  2. Your projected image will now "mirror" your Desktop.

If the image on the projector or computer display does not appear correctly, you may need to adjust the display resolution settings for the computer and/or projector.

  1. Go to the Apple Menu in the upper left corner of your screen and select System Preferences.
  2. Click on the Displays button.

Two windows will open, one for the computer monitor, and one for the projector. The title at the top of each window will identify which device the setting will be applied to.

Both the projector and computer display should be set to a resolution of 1024 x 768. The projector's refresh rate should be set to 60Hz.
If you have an option to Optimize for: in the display preference windows, optimize the display for the projector for the most stable setting.
