An icon labeled "Casper" appeared on my Desktop. Do I have a virus? Am I being hacked?

Casper is the computer hardware/software management system that Northshore began using in the Spring of 2012 to manage Mac computers.
Each time you log in to a district computer, the computer "checks-in" with Casper for possible updates. Usually the check-in happens so quickly that the Casper icon appears then disappears before it's noticed. When there is a lot of traffic on the district network, though, or if your computer is queued for a software install, update or other maintenance procedure, you may see the icon appear briefly.
The Casper icon will disappear when any queued tasks are complete. Do not try to delete the folder as it will not work and may interfere with any update in progress.
