How do I update my Chromebook to the latest version of Chrome OS?

As of October 2021, we are supporting Chrome OS v93 . District Chromebooks should be on a version between Chrome OS 91-93 for state testing.

The Chrome OS v93 update has been made available to all district Tier 1 Chromebooks. While updates occur automatically in the background during normal use (usually over the course of a week or two), students and staff can manually force the v93 update to install using the following instructions:

  1. Go to the URL chrome://help . If it shows a version below v93, click the “Chrome OS Settings” link below the Chrome OS version number. Once the download begins, students can go to a different tab and work on other things (the download takes several minutes, but will continue in the background).

  2. Once the update has downloaded, students will be prompted to restart their Chromebooks. After restarting, students will see the new Chrome OS version number in the upper right corner of the sign in screen.

Updates for Chrome OS install automatically on all supported district Chromebooks and shouldn't require any end user interaction (be sure you are connected to NSDPrivate or your home Wi-Fi network). If the Chromebook won’t update or if there are other issues, please restart and repeat the steps above. See also the Essential Chromebook Troubleshooting Steps KB article. If you continue to have issues, please open an Incident IQ ticket.

NOTE: If you are updating from a very old version of Chrome OS, you may need to run through this process more than once to install incremental updates.

NOTE: The HP 14 (G1), (G3), and (G4) Chromebooks are no longer supported, and updates are no longer available.
