Windows Software Center Self Service for Software Installations and Updates

What is Software Center?

Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager Software Center (or just simply PC Software Center) is a portal that allows you to download, install, and update software on your district Windows PC at your own convenience. It also contains useful troubleshooting and repair tools (our 1st Aid tools) that you can use to "clean up" your computer or fix known issues.

How it Works

Technology will periodically publish software and updates to Software Center that will be available to you. These published products have been thoroughly tested and approved for use by software specialists to ensure compatibility and reliability. With just a few clicks, you have the power to install your own apps.

How to Access & Use Software Center

You can find a link to Software in one of two places; either on your Desktop, or in your Start Menu.

The main Software Center window displays all available apps and 1st Aid tools. You can use the links on the left side of the window to view available Windows updates, and even to upgrade to the latest version of Windows.

There is also a link to login to Web Help Desk to submit a Tech ticket if you are having issues with your computer.

The main window has filter and sort options that you can use to narrow-down what you are looking for. You can also change the view from a tile menu to a list, or to a checklist. You can switch between viewing all available apps, and apps that are designated required - this means they need to be installed by a certain date to maintain device compliance.

When you select an app to install, you can check the status of the installation by going to the Installation Status tab. Some programs may not show an installation interface/status of their own; these program are set to silently install without user input. These are best monitored from the Installation Status tab. Other programs may launch a setup wizard that will require you to click ‘Next’ through each step to complete the installation or update.
